PFLAG Omaha Scholarship

For the 2021-2022 academic year, PFLAG Omaha will have three scholarships available - two $2,500 available to any post-secondary school (see details and application below) and one $1,000 available for Metro Community College only (see Metro's scholarship website for details).

Purpose of the scholarship

  • To recognize outstanding LGBTQIAA+ and allied high school seniors and post-secondary students
  • To encourage the pursuit of post-secondary education for self-identified LGBTQIAA+ and allied students
  • To foster a positive image of the LGBTQIAA+ community

To be eligible for a PFLAG Omaha scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior or pursuing a first bachelor's degree, associate's degree or a vocational training degree
  • Have not received this scholarship in a previous year
  • Self-identify as LGBTQIAA+ or as an ally who supports LGBTQIAA+ individuals or groups and supports equality for all
  • A resident of the state of Nebraska or Western Iowa
  • Have applied to or be attending a post-secondary educational institution during the 2021-2022 academic year
  • Be interested in service to the LGBTQIAA+ community

Deadline & Terms of the Award:

  • Scholarship amount: $2,500.00
  • Completed application (application form, essays, transcript and release form) must be mailed together in a packet and postmarked by April 1, 2021 and mailed to:

    Please note that if your transcript does not have your accurate name, you may blacken out your dead name (provided you leave enough identifying information to verify that the transcript is yours)

  • Any recommendation form(s) may be mailed separately to same address or included in the packet.
  • Scholarship winners will be selected by May 1, 2021. All applicants will receive written notification by mail that a final selection has been made. If the scholarship recipient consents, the recipient will be announced at the PFLAG meeting on May 13, 2021. Scholarship recipient is asked to attend this meeting (if out and can safely attend).
  • After scholarship winners is selected, the recipient must provide PFLAG Omaha with a copy of the acceptance letter for the intended post-secondary institution they will be attending. The award will be sent directly to this academic institution.
  • Students receiving scholarships from other sources that are equivalent to full tuition and room & board will not be eligible for the PFLAG Omaha scholarship. If this should occur after the scholarship winner is selected, the PFLAG scholarship will be awarded to an alternate winner. All applicants agree to notify PFLAG Omaha upon award of any other scholarship(s) that is/are equivalent to full tuition and room & board.
